Wow what an amazing experience connecting to my aboriginal spirit guide the other day. I received a message of “Honour the land and honour the food”. How relevant this experience would be in the next three days.
My sister and I were travelling to the Michael Roads 5 Day Intensive Workshop in Queensland and I hit a small kangaroo near Moree. The car was a little damaged and driving further on there was so many dead kangaroos on the side of the road I made mention to my sister that it almost looked like a massacre. My sister started to talk about the illuminate which brought up fear immediately in me. We arrived safely at our destination and even found a man who managed to put the grill of my car back in to place. Once we had settled, we found our hosts and shared a beautiful dinner with them listening to beautiful music from Gurrumul Yunupingu. I shared with them my experience earlier in the week about my spirit guide connection. We went to bed and I discovered I had a lot of pain in my lower back. During the night I had a dream of my daughter swinging on a swing crying for someone to help her off. It was an old rope swing with the knot on the end which you hung onto similar to the one you used to use at the river. Lots of children were around but no one was helping her. I ran to get her off and suddenly realized it was me on the swing and I instantly felt the feeling of being unsupported. I then awoke and realised my message - I can support myself! - I went back to sleep and had a restless sleep till morning. When morning came all these messages came flooding in…to honor the land is to honor ME ….to honor the food is to honor SELF. THERE IS NOTHING OUTSIDE SELF!!!!! The massacre I had observed along the side of the road is a symbol of life. We experience life including pain and suffering and we can observe this and stay focused on the road to arrive at our destination. Hearing things that may take us on a detour in our journey can stop us moving forward especially when we don’t support ourselves in trust and love. Just sitting here listening to the birds and dogs barking, I realise they are also expressions of life. The distractions, the alternative routes we so often go on in our lives. Yesterday just travelling here proved that I can reach my goals in life by “supporting myself and being the observer in experiences along the way”.

“I don’t know how to meditate” she whispered
“Well, I don’t have the time to meditate” her friend shared in exasperation. Sound like a familiar conversation? What if I told you your everyday activities could BE your meditation. We all have the choice to look at our daily habits with a fresh perspective and to use this time differently. Here are three strategies for using your existing routines as an exercise in meditation: 1) Washing your hair: While you shampoo your hair, imagine that the shampoo is cleansing your entire being (internally and externally), removing anything that is not serving you. Just like you wash away the grime from the day, visualise the shampoo washing away any bad throughs, negativity, tension and anxiety you are holding internally. After rinsing away the shampoo and feeling the release of all the internal ‘grime’ – you need to refill that void. Use the conditioner to bring trust and love through your body. As you are massaging the conditioner in, connect with yourself and visualise the energy of trust and love filtering through my body – filling the void of those things you washed away. 2) Housework: While you are working away around the house or the yard, just be in the moment. Focus on the activity you are doing and allow your mind to step through the actions your body is taking. Use a white noise CD or focus in on the sound of the vacuum cleaner. As your mind wanders, consciously bring it back to the activity. Connect with the sounds, feelings, smells. 3) Gardening: Gardening is another ‘in the moment’ activity. As you pull out the weeds from the garden, visualize yourself pulling away the negative thoughts from the day and tossing them aside. Exhale as your pull out the week, inhale as you toss them to the side. As you water the flowers, fruits and vegetables, imagine yourself giving back to yourself – watering your strengths and talents. Mowing the lawn? Focus on the noise of the mower, the vibration of the engine through your body and your feet connecting as your move forward. Visualise yourself moving through your day and into tomorrow – bring that fresh cut grass smell with you! We put so much pressure on being able to meditate properly, and to receive a certain message, that we forget the most important gift from meditation is focusing on yourself. So you see, we can all meditate in some form or another - anywhere. It is just creating time for you to go within and focus on you. Live, laugh and love - and enjoy the time for you and taking time to meditate is a great tool that will support you to grow. It is interesting that we automatically focus on how to stop it but not how we can use these triggers to grow ourselves. As we create experiences in life, we develop strategies within ourselves to cope with those events. More often than not, the strategy is to shut down parts of ourselves. If we have the awareness to be able to ask “what is coming up for me” and follow that trail to the belief we have about ourselves, then we are then able to release that energy from our body. Release comes from simply becoming Aware. If you are continually being presented with the same scenario in life, and that this is creating stress for you, it could mean that you have not identified the core belief that is stopping you from letting it go or changing it. The ability reached that conscious space within us all, allows us to become more engaged with the awareness of the choices we have in our lives. So, the top Five Strategies I would recommend when you find yourself becoming overwhelmed, anxious or disempowered (all stress emotions) are: 1) Take time for yourself---we live in such a hectic world that for many they believe they don’t have the time. If the filters in your car’s engine needed changing you would do it. What makes us so unimportant that we never change our filters. We are filtering life through our emotional body every moment. 2) Eat – be aware of what fuel you are filling your vehicle with. We cannot expect to live out lives with the fuel light on. We live in a world with an open market of knowledge that enables us to live a healthier ‘us’. Google is your friend! Feeling stressed – try googling ‘foods to relieve stress” 3) Be aware of your thoughts. Out thoughts create our reality. When a negative thought presents itself, stop and ask yourself ‘how can I think about that differently’. Thinking “I can’t do this” will create a very difference emotional and physical response to “I am going to try to do this”; or even better “I can do this!”. Don’t just think it – write it down. 4) Exercise – move your body to keep your energy flowing. It does not have to be the gym every day- a simply a walk and some stretching can be a start to creating changes in your life. The best physical think that you can do when feeling the physical systems of stress is to start with the Five Pointed Star Pose (legs apart and arms stretched above your head – then…. 5) Breath - before you respond to any altercation or make decisions breathe and make a conscious choice. Ask yourself what ‘choice’ am I making. Strategies for managing stress are useful tools to empower us towards greater awareness. For all of use however, we have the inherent ability that we often do not conscious use – the ability to communicate. When strategies are no longer enough – it is important we communicate with those around us about how we are feeling. More importantly we must seek out those that can enable us on the journey to becoming more aware and conscious individual. |
